PANTOUM TRIO
Three world renowned musicians are united through their love of chamber music in the Pantoum Trio: Robert Edward Thies, piano, Tereza Stanislav, violin and Cécilia Tsan, cello.
The players chose the name "Pantoum" as an homage to the Trio by Ravel, one of the greatest works for their instrumentation, a piece of exotic colorations, emotional depths, and athletic virtuosity.
Since their recent inception in 2005, the Pantoum Trio has cultivated a loyal and supportive audience in the greater Los Angeles area through performances on some of the most prestigious series in the Western United States, including the DaCamera Society, Cedar City, LACMA live!, South Pasadena Library and South Bay Chamber Music Society.
The Pantoum Trio enjoys performing a varied repertoire that spans several centuries and includes pieces by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel and Schoenberg. They strive to seek opportunities to perform new works and collaborate with living composers. A highly praised 2006 West Coast Premiere of Gernot Wolfgang's Jazz and Cocktails led to a recording of the work for the Albany label later that year. On June 1st 2008, they will be performing the Los Angeles Premiere of Schoenberg masterpiece “Verklärte Nacht” in the piano trio arrangement made by Eduard Steuerman, approved by Schoenberg himself. A few years ago, with two other French musicians, Cécilia had played the Paris premiere for Radio-France, from the manuscript which was kept at the Library of Congress and had not been published yet.
Combined, they draw on roughly one hundred years of musical experience that span several continents: they have each performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Théâtre National de l'Opéra, the Centre Georges-Pompidou, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Solo appearances with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, Mexico City Philharmonic, Auckland Philharmonia, Calgary Philharmonic and in such festivals as the Santa Fe Chamber Music, Ravinia and Aspen, to name but a few.
Their individual prizes include a 1995 Gold Medal Prize at the Second International Prokofiev Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia, 2nd Prize in the 2004 Banff International String Quartet Competition, top prizes in the 2003 Concert Artists Guild Competition, Barcelona International Competition and the Florence International Competition.
